And why should we homeschoolers care? My theory, along with many other watchdog homeschoolers is that as a tiny minority, we need to be in prevention mode. And maybe there are homeschoolers who haven’t heard the “what about socialization” question as if we’re a bunch of backwoods, gun totin’, barricaded kooks, but I haven’t met them yet. That question is asked without much thought, so there should be some trepidation to homeschoolers being screened for mental health in their health care providers’ office. A look at Larry and Susan Kaseman’s information in: Increased Mental Health Screening? Are You Crazy!?! makes thoughtful and well researched points about homeschooling concerns.
People who are considered to be marginal or “different” are particularly vulnerable in a program such as mental health screening. Professionals are eager to force them into conventional institutions such as public schools.
Senator Brady’s aide, Laurie, called me today to give me an update about SB 10,15 and 39. She said that 39 would likely be dropped.
She said that he wasn’t sure yet, but was leaning towards opposing SB-10. That he most likely would not support it. But nothing for sure, as she kept emphasizing that he wanted to listen at Committee and hear the different testimony. I thought that would make sense to get more information and try to be fully informed about the risks or safety factors involved with a vaccine. Except that SB -10 mandates all 11 and 12 year old girls be vaccinated. Silly me thought that would stop a Republican and any intentions to consider such a bill. But silly me left the Republican Party years ago because the Republican Party platform sounds good, but they don’t follow it.
Since the election of 1860. the Republican Party has had a special calling – to advance the founding principles of freedom, opportunity, and limited government and the dignity and worth of every individual.
She told me that Senator Brady hadn’t made up his mind about SB 15 and wanted to listen at Committee. I was becoming jaded enough by then that I was disappointed, but not surprised that he didn’t have a solid stand against mandated mental health screening even as the Republican legislators took a beating from family advocates with the passage of the 2003 Children’s Mental Health Act. (But the public does have a short attention span, I have to admit. )
