Personal and Family Empowerment

When I spoke last weekend at the gathering sponsored by Home Education Magazine and Westside Homeschoolers and Parents Association, I talked about many back door family intervention attempts by legislators and other policy makers in Illinois, Ohio and across the nation.  Basically, I talked about the categories to the right under parental watch.

Here’s some promised links and I’ll keep adding:

Truancy ordinance violates home-schooled students’ rights

By Susan Ryan

As a homeschooler, I’ve been following this daytime curfew ordinance in Rockford with some concern. I don’t live in Rockford, and after reading the information (“Committee lays over proposed truancy ordinance”) about this ordinance, I have little desire to visit Rockford.[...continued at site]

I wrote this above intending it to be a letter to the editor and not being able to find the word count limit.  I didn’t expect it to be published as it was long, but Rock River Times called and asked if they could use it as an editorial.  I thought about it for all of a split second and agreed.

Truancy Proposal Rapped-Lincoln Courier

A spirit group at the 420-student junior high has provided the regional superintendent’s office with the names of 80 students who have been truant, Bunner said today.

Alderman Wanda Rohlfs, who mentioned the possibility of badges identifying home schoolers, said, "I see an awful lot of kids in Scully Park," across from the Main Street Lincoln office she directs.

Bulletin #37 Mental Health Assessment     9/13/04   NHELD

Did you know? Children’s mental health will be assessed along with their academic standards in the new proposed testing initiatives.  Pregnant and new mothers will also be tested.  Federal legislation is calling for this and recently the Illinois State Board of Education has been given the responsibility to develop the appropriate tests and policies to go along with this legislation.

Consider this quote:

"Every child in America entering school at the age of five is mentally ill because he comes to school with certain allegiances to our founding fathers, toward our elected officials, toward his parents, toward a belief in a supernatural being, and toward the sovereignty of this nation as a separate entity. It’s up to you as teachers to make all these sick children well by creating the international child of the future."

  2. There is a psychiatric / pharmaceutical plan to “suicide screen” every
child in the United States before they graduate from high school.
Evidence exists that shows massive pharmaceutical backing that will
result in even more overdrugging of kids with psychiatric drugs .

And then sign and forward this petition
    http://www.petitiononline.com/TScreen/petition.html to your associates
and everyone you know? It already has over 23,000 signatures.

It’s simply a race to inform enough parents so something can be done
    about this.

  4. Thanks for the reminder about the petition, Amy! I’ve signed it already and it should be spread far and wide.

HR 2387 (presented by Rep. Ron Paul and others) simply states this as its purpose:

“To prohibit the use of Federal funds for any universal or mandatory mental health screening program.”

It’s an admitted chase for the federal funding for mental health ‘care’ for states. If the federal funds are shut down, a lot of this social/emotional business (I do mean business) will likely cease and desist.
Senator Durbin has tried to assure me in a letter that no one is calling for universal mental health screens. So has Barbara Shaw (director of the IL Children’s Mental Health Partnership).

Unfortunately, the facts in testimony, quotes and worst of all…bills, says otherwise.
